In 1185 occurred the basement and the subsequent collapse which involved tilting the block of work for almost a century. The continuation was entrusted to Giovanni di Simone, who in those years he had worked on the Church of San Francesco with its bold bell. The architect showed extraordinary skill in limiting the consequences of the slope and so the work continued until 1284, when the naval defeat of Meloria. The last ring of the bell tower, the seventh, turned into a belfry, was designed and built by Thomas Pisano in the middle of the fourteenth century.

Are admitted to visiting groups of up to 40 people accompanied by service personnel (the visit takes about 35 minutes). The beginning of the visit must be improrogabilmente time indicated on the ticket. No admittance for children under eight years. Minors must still be accompanied by responsible adults.

Entrance
Full € 15.00 (no discounts for groups or age groups). The purchase of tickets is made only at the ticket office which is close to the Opera of the Primate of Pisa (the body that manages the monuments of the Piazza del Duomo), located near the Leaning Tower.

You can book online at a cost of € 17.00 in advance between 45 and 15 days of the date of the visit. It is not possible to make a telephone reservation.

The visit to the Leaning Tower requires the visitor a great physical effort, which should be evaluated subjectively, taking into account that the spiral staircase inside the tower, the small size, has about 300 steps. If it does not recommend a visit to people who suffer from vertigo. You can access the belfry and at the top of the tower but not to intermediate levels. You may not protrude from the protective railings on walkways and exit at various levels. It is forbidden to pass under the bells and beat with anything. It is forbidden to visit the tower carrying bags or containers of any kind, which can be left in the wardrobe at the collection point. You may bring and use cameras and camcorders.
