The church, celebrated on July 7, 1562, began to be built by Vasari April 17, 1565, where once stood the church of San Sebastian to More Factories. This church was built for Cosimo I de ‘Medici as the Collegiate and Military Order of Knighthood of Saint Stephen, Pope and Christian martyr. The facade, begun by Vasari, was completed on the project and design of Giovanni de ‘Medici. Originally it was only one nave, which were added in the seventeenth century the two aisles, completed in 1934. The church keeps inside memorabilia, flags and lights removed from the Turkish and pirate ships throughout the centuries XVI – XVIII. The large wooden ceiling presents works dedicated to businesses and to glory of the Order of Santo Stefano.
