DESCRIPTION:

Center of the Lower Valdarno, in the plain between the right bank of the Arno and the course of the channel Usciana, Castelfranco, has a square with the side about 250 meters and divided into regular blocks of nine streets that intersect at right angles, typical of the Roman municipal structures. The two highways continue beyond the four gates in the countryside beyond the city walls, now replaced by a ring road. The oldest part, characterized by gate-towers, preserved in the main square, the fifteenth-century Praetorian Palace, with a porch. The collegiate church, rebuilt in the early eighteenth century, traces of the earlier Romanesque-Gothic building which houses works of Mannerism.
