Lari
Lari is situated in an area with a strong agricultural tradition, in which vitocoltura and fruit are an important economic resource. For the quality of life and tourist services Lari was awarded by the Touring Club with the orange flag.
The village, surrounded by a wall with three gates, is characterized by the massive Castle of the Vicars, of medieval although the present structure dates from the seventeenth century. Because of its location overlooking the castle was an important military stronghold of the Pisan Republic until its fall in Florence (1406). Later the castle became the residence of the Vicars, governors and members of Florentine families, who transformed it into a private residence for the rulers of Tuscany from the Medicis to Lorraine.
Used in the past as a prison and courthouse, the castle was reopened to visitors in 1991 and today we celebrate civil marriages. The complex is home to the Philip Baldinucci Museum, which displays Etruscan and Roman, the Della Robbia glazed terracotta and frescoes of the Renaissance. They are open to visits the Hall of torments, prisons and underground, according to legend, still haunted by the ghost of Paula Red, here was imprisoned for his political ideas.
Around a network of paths allows to discover interesting places and landscapes, as Usigliano, which boasts a Museum of Farming Activities or Casciana High, with its Romanesque church of San Nicola in Sessana Oratory of the Madonna della Cava.
Lari is famous for its cherries, which is dedicated to the traditional festival of the end of May. The cherry of Lari boasts 19 varieties taste different and intense. In the village square local producers are selling baskets of cherries, jams and liquors made from red fruit.
If the hillside, the main activity is agricultural with olive groves, vineyards and orchards in the plains Perignano Furnishing City is known nationally for furniture stores and showrooms, with over 100,000 square meters of exhibition space.
Already in medieval village and castle, Lorenzana is placed in a place where you can see the whole profile of the Pisan Hills. Surrounded by greenery, preserves the appearance of a typical hill town.
Next to the Church of Saints Bartholomew and Christopher stands the ancient Palace of Lorenzi, who was based in Florence during the rule of the Podesta. Today the building is occupied by private houses.
The main activity of the area is agriculture, producing cereals, olives and wine grapes, so that in mid-September is the traditional Festival of Grapes and Wine, where you can taste traditional dishes accompanied by local wine.
Nearby you will report the accounts of the farm-house and the Villa Giuli Sforni with a Romanesque church annex. Colle Alberti and Vicchio centers are ancient places on hill slopes that are worth a visit for the gentle landscape.
