DESCRIPTION:

The chronicles report news of Castellina Marittima around the thirteenth century, but some historians speak of a probable Etruscan origin, given the presence in the ancient mines of alabaster called "White of Castellina."

Given its strategic importance for the position of dominance on the Via Emilia and the possibility of control over a very wide area, from the Tyrrhenian coast to the whole southern part of the province of Pisa.

Interesting are the remains of the ancient fortress, the church of S. John the Beheaded and the Romanesque church of St. John the Baptist.
